Dopplers in GI Endoscopy
The VTI Selectable Depth Doppler System is a sound breakthrough in the treatment of acute peptic ulcer hemorrhage. By incorporating a probe that can be passed down a 2.8mm endoscope channel, this system identifies persistent blood flow in an ulcer base after hemostatic treatment. Clinical studies demonstrate that ulcers that are Doppler positive after treatment are at significantly increased risk for recurrent hemorrhage. With this previously unattainable marker, endoscopists can now make immediate clinical judgments about the need for additional therapy.
Doppler Applications
- Acute Peptic Ulcer Hemorrhage
Additional GI Applications
- Evaluation and Treatment of Gastric Varices
- Submucosal Endoscopic Dissection for Early Gastric Cancer
Doppler Ultrasound Probe (DUP) As a Guide to Endoscopic Hemostasis of Ulcers With Stigmata of Recent Hemorrhage (SRH)
For more than 3 decades endoscopic treatment (Rx) of peptic ulcer bleeding (PUBs) has depended upon SRH. However, these have significant interobserver variability & rates of rebleeding depend upon the size & blood flow of underlying vessels...

Endoscopic Doppler Ultrasound Guided Coagulation Could Prevent Delayed Hemorrhage From Ulcer After Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection for Early Gastric Cancer: a Feasibility Study
After endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) for early gastric cancer (EGC), all visible exposed vessels were customary coagulated even if there was no evidence of bleeding at the end of procedure, however, delayed bleeding occur in some portions of patients (1.2-11.6%)...

Endoscopic Doppler Ultrasound (DOP-US) provides the only objective marker for predicting failure of endoscopic therapy. DOP-US does not require endoscopic ultrasound equipment or advanced training.
